How do you raise awareness??

SPD is such a little known disorder. Yet 1 in 20 kids are affected. Unfortunately, we do not have any celebrity spokesmodels at the forefront creating awareness and fostering advocacy. The SPD Foundation does an excellent job with creating events and campaigns within the SPD community as well as the fostering of the parents connect, support groups nationwide. There is also a vast amount of service providers, parents and other advocates helping in their local communities to raise awareness. However, there is more to be done!

So we want to hear from you, the parents (or advocates), about what you do in your community to raise and spread awareness for Sensory Processing Disorder. I know there are many parent support groups who meet and discuss best practices, etc. Does your group host any community based events to raise awareness? If so, what?

If you do not have a local group or even if you do but don’t host community events, what do you think we could do to raise more awareness? Are there any large scale events we could do? What about merchandising or branding? What could we do among those lines to let more people know about SPD?

We want to turn this into a fun contest!!! Actually, this will be a 2fer. That is, 2 contests rolled up into one sensational posting!!!
Yes, of course there will be prizes!!!

Part 1:
Awareness Event:
Give us your best idea for a community awareness event geared towards raising awareness for SPD. It can be something you have done or something you would like to, just haven’t for one reason or another! Be as creative as possible. Also keep in mind the reach or affect it will have. Our goal is to raise awareness to those who do not know what it is, so these events should be able to generate a broader reach and include those who are not in the “spd community!” Obviously, they must be safe and family friendly.

Part 2:

Marketing/Merchandising:
For this, we want to hear your most creative idea for merchandise or a marketing campaign. You can play off the phrase “sensational” or incorporate the 1 in 20 stats. Be clever! Step out of the box! A good campaign is a memorable one. Your ideas should be relevant to SPD and raising awareness. Campaigns that make people want to learn more are wonderful! Please note, you do NOT have to be a fantastic artist. As long as you can convey your idea without question, stick people are fine. Your message should be clear! Your message also MUST be original!!! Ones that are not original will be disqualified from the contest.

Entries must be received by February 16th, 2012.

Entries must be emailed to brian@dominicsdreams.org.

Ok, so those are the overall guidelines for the contest. We will be picking 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category.
